Navigating Special Trading Sessions: Understanding the SEBI Mandate for Investors!!

Writer: HAWWA HANJARAHAWWA HANJARA

I'm Hawwa A. H. Hanjara, a dedicated Share Trader with a passion for the market since 2010. Over the years, I've navigated through various changes in share trading, understanding some easily and finding others confusing, but my experience has deepened my comprehension.

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, both NSE & BSE will hold special live trading sessions in the equity & F&O segments. There are two sessions planned: the first at the primary site and the second at the disaster recovery site. Here are the session timings:

- Trading session from primary site:

- Pre-open session: 9 AM - 9:08 AM

- Normal market timing: 9:15 AM - 10 AM

- Trading session from the disaster recovery site:

- Pre-open session: 11:15 AM - 11:23 AM

- Normal market timing: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

This special session is mandated by SEBI for Market Infrastructure Intermediaries (MIIs) to conduct a switchover to their Disaster Recovery site as part of the business continuity plan.

Key points to note:

- Securities will have upper and lower circuit limits of 5% in this session.

- Securities with a 2% circuit limit will maintain that limit.

- All futures contracts will have a 5% operating range.

- Unlike regular sessions, there won't be flexible price bands for stocks in the F&O segment and futures contracts during this session.

Additionally, Saturday, January 20, is a settlement holiday. Consequently, credits in the F&O segment and intraday profits from January 19 won't be available for trading on that day. The sale proceeds from BTST sell transactions on January 20 will be settled on Monday, January 22, with credits available for trading on Tuesday, January 23.
